If you are looking for a home in the Aiken area and the Houndslake golf community is on your list, consider booking a room at the convenient Houndslake Hotel and Inn. And if you failed to score a ticket to the annual Masters golf tournament just a half hour down the road in Augusta, GA, consider joining other golf fans for a round of golf in the morning and a big screen view of the Masters in the afternoon.
The Inn is a comfortable place to stay but the Houndslake community is greater than the sum of the inn, its Joe Lee designed 18-hole golf course, its other amenities, like pickleball, tennis, fine dining in the clubhouse and a generously sized pool, and its location in proximity to a wide range of services. In horse-crazy Aiken, equestrian centers are all around the area and one lies just outside the gates of Houndslake. Shopping is close by as well – a Walmart Super Center is just five minutes away – and downtown Aiken, right out of central casting for charming Southern town, is a mere 15-minute drive. And for those who want or need to be close to medical facilitiles, the University Medical Center is just four miles from Houndslake’s gates.
Golf architect Joe Lee is widely hailed for his work in Florida, at such famed golf courses as Doral and three of the layouts at Disney World; but he has also produced well-regarded Carolina golf courses. (Kenmure in the mountains of North Carolina comes to mind.) Houndslake’s routings and its array of tee boxes will appeal to the low-handicap golfer as well as the beginner.
Real estate in Houndslake is the most reasonable of any golf community in the Aiken area. Given that Houndslake is now in its fifth decade of operation, some of the older homes require a little bit of TLC, but what you will save on the purchase of the home will help pay for the personal touches you decide to add.
