Wedgefield Plantation Golf Club
Wedgefield Plantation in Georgetown, SC, is the southern anchor for the 80 golf courses that comprise the Grand Strand of Myrtle Beach. It is also one of the early golf courses that helped develop the area’s reputation as the “supermarket” of golf in the Southeast U.S.
The community and golf course may feel rural, but they are located just a few miles from the center of historic Georgetown, and on the way is a Walmart and other shopping and dining options. Front Street is just a five-minute drive away and a mecca for art galleries, a diverse set of restaurants, a marina walkway for a great stroll past yachts and fishing boats, and a few places to pick up freshly caught seafood for a home-cooked meal.
The Wedgefield Golf Course was designed by Porter Gibson and Bob Toski in 1972 and is fun to play and lined dramatic live oak trees dripping with Spanish moss. A round of golf at Wedgefield screams southern charm, and a post-round libation in the vintage clubhouse will take you back a century or so.
Real estate at Wedgefield is among the most reasonably priced of any golf communities on the Grand Strand, with condos starting in the mid $260s and single-family homes in the mid $300s, some of them with impressive views of the adjacent Black River.
